Prevent Underground Utility Damage

Call or Click Before you Dig is the law (RCW 19.122) that helps to prevent damage to underground utilities, and promotes safe digging when you start a home project. The call/request is free, and utility companies like AWWD will mark the portions we own.

Requests must be made at least 2 business days in advance of any digging. For more information on which utility lines get marked, please click on Washington811 – What Lines Get Marked.

To request that your underground utilities be marked, there are options:

For the online system, use Dig Safe Washington and select Excavator or Homeowner to get started.

If you prefer,  call 811 and you will be directed to the call center that services the area you are in.
